It was a beautiful day back in 1997. I was in my mid 20’s and I was running a a computer related company with a 100 employees. I was making good money for my age, and when you are in your mid 20’s what is the point in saving? I decided to pat myself on the back with a new Porsche. I couldn’t quite afford the 911, but anyways at the time the new Boxster was all the rage. It was the first year of its production so it was scarcely available at dealers. You would hardly see one on the road and if you did see one all eyes would be on it. I had to have it. I called all the local dealers and they told me there would be a one year waiting period because of the high demand for the car and the limited availability. I didn’t want to wait a year so what could I do. I was telling one of my good friends about my inability to get the Porsche Boxster sooner than a year and a light went off in his head. He said his brother in law ordered a Boxster 6 months ago, it arrived at the dealer, and now he has changed his mind. We called his brother in law, met him at the dealer to let them know he wanted to transfer his rights to the car to me, and 6 hours later I was the proud owner of a brand new 1997 Porsche Boxster in Pastel Yellow! Yes, I said pastel yellow! I never imagined I would own a car that was the same color as a banana, but what can I say. I really wanted to own a Boxster. Anyways, I decided to take my good friend out for a ride and then to dinner. I picked him up with the top down and we started cruising. Everywhere we went we got looks of awe and envy. It was great! We finished dinner and I was on the way to driving him back home. We were approaching a large intersection going about 40mph and all of a sudden this large black 1970’s car with the windows tinted started to merge into my lane at a slow pace. Since there was no room for me to take the car in any other direction, I had to pull hard to the right. The next thing I know, my Boxster rams head on into the cars waiting to make a left at the stoplight. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the front end of the Porsche was totalled. Keep in mind this was the first day I got the car. So that is how I crashed my brand new Porsche Boxster.
